Research
The digital world did not appear from nowhere. It was built from ideas, inventions, arguments, experiments, protocols, books, machines, and assumptions about what technology should be.
RESEARCH is where DCRU examines those things.
Here we investigate the systems and ideas that shape digital culture from artificial intelligence and algorithms to attention, privacy, knowledge, interfaces, networks, and the changing relationship between humans and machines.
Some work begins with a contemporary question. Some begins with an old document. Some begins with a book written decades ago. The subjects change. The question remains:
What are these technology doing to us, and what are we becoming because of them?
Original research, arguments, observations, and investigations from DCRU.
Books, papers, manifestos, films, protocols, and other works that provide the intellectual foundations for understanding technology and culture.
